Gloria Dei Church National Historic Site
Enjoy your next trip to Philadelphia with a visit to one of the areas oldest churches and most historic landmarks – the Gloria Dei Church National Historic Site. Found just inland of the Delaware River in downtown Philadelphia, the Gloria Dei Church was constructed in 1698, making it the second oldest Swedish church in the U.S.
The entirety of the Gloria Dei Church National Historic Site measures in at 3.7 acres, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. Incidentally, the Gloria Dei Church was named a National Historic Site in 1942, a whole six years earlier than Independence Hall.
