Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site
Make the most of your next visit to Berks County in central Pennsylvania with a tour of the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. A well-preserved and iconic example of a 19th century iron plantation, the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site was founded originally as the Hopewell Furnace Co. in 1771.
Across 848 lush acres, the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site featured a major boom in production – it's most prosperous time, in fact – from 1820-1840. As you explore the Hopewell Furnace site, you'll find 14 structures, all restored. It was established as a national site for tourism in 1938, and can be found within the Hopewell Big Woods, a short drive from Intercourse.
