Lehigh Valley International Airport
While in the Lehigh Valley Region of central Pennsylvania, travelers looking for a convenient airport have a great option in Allentown. The Lehigh Valley International Airport began providing aviation services to area residents and visitors in 1929, as the Allentown Airport. Commercial flights with United Airlines began in 1935.
The United States Navy conducted flight training programs at the airport, during World War II. After the war was over, the airport added a passenger terminal and additional commercial flights became available through Trans World Airlines, United Airlines ,and Colonial Airlines.
This 2,629-acre airport provides general aviation services through Lehigh Valley Aviation Services, in addition to the services in the terminal for commercial passengers. Dining, shopping, ground transportation, and car rental agencies, are among the services available. Commercial flights to Orlando, Detroit, Washington-Dulles, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Toronto are available from seven major airlines.
