Visiting Pennsylvania Dutch Country
You’ll find it easy to make the most of your next fall or winter visit to Pennsylvania Dutch Country. With a myriad of charming cities and townships, each with their own unique must-see attractions, and an impressive list of events, festivals, concerts, and more, your stay in PA Dutch Country will be unforgettable.
From Breezewood out west, to Harrisburg and its suburbs like Carlisle and York, you’ll have plenty of sterling destinations to explore this fall. In Harrisburg, be sure to check out the National Civil War Museum, ideal at nearly any time of year, and don’t skip on a tour of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex.
From Harrisburg, make the short drive east in to nearby Hummelstown for their annual Fall Fest at Indian Echo Caverns. On October 15th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., you and the family will be treated to hayrides, face painting for the kids, a bounce house, and food options from the “Old Fashioned Days.”
Plan for a stay in Lancaster this fall, and enjoy one of the area’s premier Halloween experiences. On October 22nd and 23rd, the Turkey Hill Experience complex will host the annual Trick-or-Treat at Turkey Hill. Starting at 2 p.m., you and the kids can enjoy a safe, fun, and spook-tacular Halloween event – 13 total treat-stops, a costume contest, candy giveaways, and lots more fun for the whole gang.
Out in Hershey, less than 30 miles northwest of Lancaster, be sure to explore Hershey’s Chocolate World. Not only is this museum and chocolate factory worth touring for the free treats, you’ll also find some excellent events. Throughout October, on each Saturday and Sunday, check out the Trick-or-Treat Trolley between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Later in the year, as fall gives way to winter, check out the Hershey’s Holiday Chocolate House, on display for fun tours from November 11th to December 31st.
Your visit to PA Dutch Country this holiday season should include a stay in Chambersburg. You’ll find the drive east into nearby Fayetteville quick and scenic, and when you head out on December 15th don’t miss a live production of A Christmas Carol. Held at the Totem Pole Playhouse starting at 8 p.m., this is one of the premier holiday events you’ll find in PA Dutch Country.
