Visiting Pennsylvania Dutch Country

The colors of springtime return to Pennsylvania Dutch Country and communities from Harrisburg and Hershey to Intercourse and Paradise welcome visitors with a wealth of ways to have fun – indoors and outdoors. Special events, festivals, and all kinds of kid-friendly fun – this is the time to visit southeastern Pennsylvania.

Head out on a scenic driving tour to appreciate the beauty of Dutch Country as blooming wildflowers adorn the rustic countryside. Must-see stops include Allentown’s picture-perfect downtown area, the classic covered bridges of Quakertown, the idyllic farmsteads around Shillington, and the the Dutch Wonderland Family Amusement Park in Lancaster.

While you’re in Lancaster, check out the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum. It’s a living history museum interpreting the history and material culture of early German Pennsylvania settlements. Be there on May 6th and 7th to be a part of the 2016 Herb & Garden Faire, when more than 80 vendors of locally grown produce will be on hand. The festivities also include local food vendors, garden tours, and more green-themed fun, starting at 9 a.m.

For those in search of a little culture the same weekend, head to the Santander Performing Arts Center in Reading for a performance by the Reading Symphony Orchestra. The 6th concert in this season’s series sees the symphony delving into Dvorak, with internationally renowned bass-baritone Kevin Deas highlighting the night. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. on May 7th.
