Gifford Pinchot State Park
Central Pennsylvania is known for outdoor splendor, which is best accompanied by recreation like hiking, biking, and golfing – even snow tubing and coasters.
Harrisburg is home to plenty of parks and golf courses, plus the Capital Area Greenbelt – a 20-mile inner-city trail ideal for biking, birding, jogging, and cross-country skiing.
The 85-acre Reservoir Park is found along the Capital Area Greenbelt in the Allison Hill neighborhood – both the highest point in Harrisburg and home to the National Civil War Museum. Other Harrisburg playgrounds include Riverfront Park, Italian Lake, and the City Island & Beach.
Pennsylvania's state parks are also an amazing way to experience the Capital Region’s outdoor glory. Explore the 2,238-acre Gifford Pinchot State Park, featuring the 340-acre Pinchot Lake and over 18 miles of trail – plus hunting, horseback riding, and disc golf.
North of Harrisburg, the Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area offers hunting and picnicking, and more than 10 miles of trail for hiking and cross-country skiing.
For more outdoor fun, head to Mechanicsburg for the Liberty Forge Arboretum, or enjoy a day at HERSHEY’S Chocolate World – full of rides, games, and of course chocolate in Hershey. Winter travelers, visit York for AvalancheXpress, and spend your winter break ice-skating and snow tubing.
