Visiting Philadelphia Metro Area
Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park greens in the spring for a season of outdoor escapes and fun. Located along the banks of the Schuylkill River, Fairmount Park is an outdoor mecca of rolling hills, trails and woods. The Philadelphia staple of summer for sports fans are the MLB Phillies. A home game at Citizens Bank Park in South Philly is a must for travelers to the City of Brotherly Love. In Allentown, a Lehigh Valley IronPigs baseball game is always a draw, however in 2013 they may be upstaged by Coca-Cola Park’s new urinal gaming system in the men’s bathrooms.
Soccer fans across Eastern Pennsylvania have a full summer of matches to enjoy at PPL Park. The Philadelphia Union's 2013 season continues through October. Mark your calendars for June when the Union host the New York Red Bull, and August 10th when DC United come to town.
Philadelphia’s Dad Vail Regatta celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, marking the 75th anniversary of the Schuylkill River event. The Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta draws over 100 colleges and Universities for the largest collegiate regatta in the United States. Traditionally held the second weekend of May, the 2013 regatta is May 10th and 11th.
Fairmont Park’s Memorial Hall Green is the start for Philadelphia’s 2013 ODDyssey Half Marathon. With optional challenges along the course, a costume contest and live entertainment, the ODDyssey makes a unique and fun summer challenge. Join the fun on June 9th in front of the Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park’s Belmont Plateau section.
Quakertown, one of Bucks County’s most charming towns, celebrates spring with Arts Alive 2013, one of the premier Quakertown Alive events. The juried arts and crafts event features live music on two stages, arts and crafts tents and, new in 2013, a wine tasting area. Visit Quakertown May 18th for the spring festivities.
Throughout greater Philadelphia and eastern Pennsylvania, summer challenges dot the calendar. For runners, the 2013 Bob Potts Marathon takes place May 26th in York. The race starts and finishes at the Grumbacher Center at York College. Mr. Smith’s Challenge Trail Race also brings runners to Lancaster in June.
