Pittsburgh’s spring and summer night sky blossoms May 24th as Pyro Fest 2014 celebrates the art of Pyrotechnics. Celebrate Memorial Day weekend at Hartwood Acres with an afternoon of live music featuring The Options, Nomad, and The Defibulators among the lineup, along with plenty of food and fun activities. The evening features the worlds top pyrotechnic displays topped off with Ricardo Caballer Ricasa from Spain, and a never seen Pyrotecnico production.
The traditional launch of summer in Pittsburgh, the 2014 Three Rivers Arts Festival, is June 6th through 15th. Now celebrating its 55th year, Three Rivers takes place in downtown Pittsburgh at locations including Point State Park, Gateway Center, and Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Cultural District. Headliners for the festival include the Kaiser Chiefs, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and Jeff Tweedy.
Punxsutawney, 20 miles south of Du Bois, is home to the world’s most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. Located in the Allegheny National Forest Region of Pennsylvania, surrounding communities celebrate the 48th Anniversary Groundhog Festival June 29th through July 5th. The 2014 events feature food vendors, arts & crafts, and live entertainment and music. The lineup includes Christian Rock on Sunday, June 29th, Magic by Dennie Huber for the kids on Monday the 30th, and Skybound Canine Entertainment on July 2nd.
The community of St. Marys celebrates the heritage and traditions of summer at the 2014 Elk County Fair, six miles south of town in Kersey, August 5th through 9th. St. Marys is also convenient to Emporium, 20 miles east, and the Cameron County Fairgrounds. The 2014 Cameron County Fair is August 3rd through 9th, featuring the theme Treasure the Memories.
Celebrate the end of summer in St. Marys at the 2014 Bavarian Fall Fest. With the chill of fall in the air, enjoy music, arts & crafts, and local products. Held in late September, enjoy the last days of summer at St. Marys Bavarian Fall Fest. This is also a great time to visit the famous elk herds of Elk County and Cameron County; Benezette is a great starting point for elk sightings.
Travel south near Bentleyville for the 28th Annual Charleroi Federal Little Great Race, and a late season challenge. Charleroi, 8 miles east of Bentleyville, hosts the 2014 race September 13th. The 5K race starts and finishes at 1 Chamber Plaza in the center of Charleroi.
