Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens
On your visit through Pittsburgh, you’ll find a wide world of fun, exciting, and truly unique outdoor attractions fit for every member of the family. While it’s known as an industrious city – dubbed the Steel City for a reason – Pittsburgh does, in fact, offer some great lakes, hiking and biking trails, and plenty of foliage to admire.
Start your outdoor Pittsburgh adventure with a trip to the Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. One of the gems of outdoor fun in western Pennsylvania, Phipps is found just east of downtown Pittsburgh, an easy drive from Bentleyville, and feature excellent tours of the historic landmark. You and the family will enjoy a relaxing lunch at Café Phipps after a morning of guided tours.
You’ll find little argument about planning a visit to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. Gather the family and head on out – the kiddos will love touring the grounds with more than 400 species – including 22 threatened and endangered.
During a summer visit, there are few places better to explore Pittsburgh’s great outdoors than Panther Hollow Lake. Only minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, you and the family can fish the depths of the lake for hours, then enjoy a nice hike around the lake.
When you make your plans to visit Pittsburgh during the winter, be sure to bring plenty of layers, a scarf, some gloves, and more importantly, an apatite for the slopes. Head to Boyce Park Ski Area and enjoy a thrilling day of skiing. Beginners need not worry – Boyce Park Ski Area offers a ski school, and snow tubing – if skiing just isn’t your thing.
