Pittsburgh Sports Teams
From the Steelers to the Pirates & Penguins
With its blue-collar reputation, historic sites, and eastern charm, Pittsburgh yields a unique brand of fun and excitement – just the kind the sports fan in your group will love.
Make your way to Heinz Field during the fall and check out all the hard hits and excitement as the Pittsburgh Steelers plow through the rest of the NFL. As one of the most successful and popular franchises in the league, the Steelers feature a rabid fan base, of which many of the fans travel in from nearby cities like Bentleyville, and Grove City.
Like football, but looking for baseball action? Pittsburgh’s got you covered there, too. On your spring and summer travels through the Steel City, check out PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. With fans all over the state, including cities like Dubois, and Saint Mary’s, the Pirates are one of the oldest baseball teams, having been established in 1882.
If you’re a hockey fan, you’ll have plenty to be excited about this fall on your excursion through Pittsburgh. Pack up the kids (don’t forget their sweaters) and head to Consol Energy Center, set just across the river from Heinz Field. The hockey gem of Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania, the Penguins have a wide fan base, winning a handful of Stanley Cup championships, and are consistently competitive in the NHL’s Eastern Conference.
While Pittsburgh has seen it’s share of success from it’s professional teams, the city is also home to the University of Pittsburgh. The Pitt Panthers field competitive teams in 19 sports, most notably the football team, who play all home games at Heinz Field, and the men’s and women’s basketball teams, who play at the Petersen Events Center.
